As a parent of a child at HJPS, you might wonder how your school community contribution is used, especially since HJPS is a state-funded school.
While we do receive government funding, our unique status as a voluntary aided Jewish school means we rely on additional contributions from our community to maintain the exceptional educational experience we are proud to offer.

What your contribution supports:
We take the safety of our students seriously. While the CST (Community Security Trust) covers much of the cost, there are additional expenses for security personnel.
Your contribution helps ensure that these vital measures remain in place.
Modern education requires modern tools. Equipment like Chrome Books, essential for your child’s learning, is not covered by government funding and must be replaced regularly. Your donations ensure that students have access to up-to-date technology.
As a Jewish school, we take great pride in our Jewish Studies curriculum. However, the staff dedicated to teaching this core part of our identity are funded solely through your contributions. Without this support, we couldn’t offer the rich, immersive Jewish education that sets us apart.
Maintaining a fully kosher kitchen is essential but comes with additional costs, as kosher food is more expensive. Additionally, the presence of a Shomer, who ensures that all food preparation complies with strict kosher laws, is a significant expense. Your contribution helps cover these extra costs so that we can continue to provide kosher meals for all pupils.
To foster well-rounded growth, we provide enrichment opportunities such as dedicated music lessons, specialist PE teaching, and participation in Maccabi sports tournaments. These extras are not funded by the government and rely entirely on parental contributions.
While HJPS is a state school, the funding we receive from the government only covers 75% of our operating costs. This leaves a significant 25% gap that we must fill through community donations.
Government grants are limited and competitive, so we depend on the generosity of our parents to ensure we can continue to offer the high-quality Jewish education and wide range of activities that your child enjoys.
We understand that not everyone is able to give the same amount, and all children are treated equally regardless of whether their families donate. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we encourage you to contact our Finance Team for a confidential discussion on finance@hjps.herts.sch.uk.
Together, we can ensure that no child misses out on the rich experience HJPS offers.
The HJPS Trust was established to collect donations from parents and the wider community, then grant those funds to the school.
The Trust’s charitable status allows us to claim Gift Aid, meaning that for every £1 you donate, the Trust can claim an additional 25p from the government. This is a simple way to maximize the impact of your contribution.
By filling out a Gift Aid declaration, your donation can go even further without costing you anything extra.
If you’re a UK taxpayer, the school can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. If you pay a higher tax rate, you can even claim the difference on your tax return. It’s an easy and effective way to boost your support for the school.
The Jewish ethos and community spirit at HJPS are at the heart of everything we do. By contributing what you can, you help ensure that we can continue to offer a nurturing, enriching, and secure environment where your children can thrive—both academically and spiritually.
We thank you for your generosity and support. Every penny truly matters.
While the suggested school community contribution is £125 per month per child, we understand that families have different circumstances. Therefore, we offer alternative options of £50 or £250, which can be selected using the links below.
If you wish to contribute a different amount or need assistance with your payment, please don’t hesitate to contact the school. We are happy to discuss any alternative arrangements that work for your family.
